‘A Designer’s Guide to the Gardens of England’

Visit some of the most exciting contemporary gardens of England by world famous garden designers. This tour has been especially designed together with Jim and includes some of the today’s most relevant gardens in the world of design. For more details visit ASA TOURS.
Jim is the current National president of the Horticultural Media Association Australia, and has been a regular garden design writer for various publications in Australia, including The Melbourne Age Newspaper and Burke’s Backyard Magazine.
Jim obtained a Certificate in Journalism at Cairns TAFE in 1995 and his media career started as the gardening column writer for the Cairns Post in 1995. Since then he has worked across the many and varied aspects of garden journalism including TV, radio, Magazines, newspapers & books.
Jim was a regular panel member on a RN radio show with host Tim Entwisle called ‘Talking Plants.’ The show aired over the summer season of 2015 & 2016.
In 2016, they won the Audio Laurel at the Horticultural Media Association Laurel Awards

Jim’s design work has taken him to many regions of the world and he constantly takes pictures of plants and objects in the natural landscape that provide inspiration. Jim uses his photos for articles in printed media, books and for his own design inspiration. Click here to view more examples.

The Joy Harland Memorial Photographic Competition.
This competition, run by the Horticultural Media Association of Australia, was won by Jim in 2008 with this image. The judge said “A bold, happy image with good central interest and full of appeal. Strong, well balanced composition, pleasing use of focus and blurred background. A straightforward shot superbly executed. Definite cover material.”

Australian Inspiration – A bush Garden goes to Chelsea

This book recounts the amazing year of planning, frustration, hard work and triumph involved along with the contractor Semken Landscaping and major sponsor Flemings Nursery to take the first Australian based Show Garden that was accepted to exhibit at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show in London, winning a Silver-Gilt Flora Show Garden Award.
Projects that have been designed by Jim also appear in books published in the UK, USA, Australia, Singapore, Japan & China.
Jim has presented garden and design related talks all over Australia and overseas for many years.
Clients include universities & colleges, botanic gardens, industry associations, conferences, corporations, garden clubs, Probus, Rotary, & garden shows to name a few.
All talks are presented using power point presentations with images.
Most talks are 45 mins plus 15 mins questions time.
